Meet The Team – Joyce McEvoy
What do you do at Phyton Talent Advisors?
I am a Senior Accountant and in addition to a multitude of duties encompassing financial, payroll and taxing issues, I provide much needed support for the back office. You know all of those items that need verification, fixing and “I’m not sure what to do with this?” or “We need to turn this around ASAP”, that will come to me.
What’s your go-to productivity trick?
My go to productivity trick is to set my priorities and get organized. Once the foundation is built, the rest of the job goes smoothly. I like to start with the easiest tasks to get a sense of accomplishment and to not hold my teammates up. This is especially helpful when I am feeling overwhelmed or can’t seem to get focused.
What’s the worst job you’ve ever had, and what did you learn from it?
The worst job I ever had was in my early 20’s. I took a job that was advertised as an “accounting / HR clerk” position that really was a “secretarial” position. It didn’t last long, but when I reached a level whereby I was doing the hiring, I always made it a point to accurately describe the job as well as the personalities, both good and bad. Having worked for family run businesses, I found personality is sometimes more important than work knowledge.
When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
As a kid growing up in Astoria I wanted the typical “American Dream”; house with a picket fence, kids, and pets in the yard.
Who inspires you?
I am inspired by anyone who is defeated and can rise above it.
What’s something you’ve done, but will never do again?
I will never underestimate myself again. (Nor should anyone else for that matter. But I am at my best when underestimated). I will never opt of trying something new because of fear of the unknown. Life is to be lived and experienced with both its good and bad.
Are you an early bird or a night owl?
I am more of a night owl.
What are you passionate about?
I am passionate about travel and immersing myself in different cultures. I’m more of a “live like the locals” than poolside at the resort. Nothing like a roadside Taquerita in Mexico with the chickens running around your feet as you eat. Additionally, I love finding the “win-win” situation. No one should lose if we can all win.
What’s your favorite movie?
I’m not much of a movie person, music is more my thing. But if I’m flipping through channels, it’s hard for me not to get sucked into “Silence of the Lambs” and “Jaws”.
If you could choose a superpower, what would it be?
I already have an awesome BS detector, so I guess the ability to bring people together would be next up on the Superpower list.
If you could trade places with anyone for a day, who would you choose?
I would not trade my life, except as a reminder that the grass is always greener where the dogs are shitting. – quoted from Soundgarden.
